His father is Darth Vader facts like yeah, I got sound like gonna be simple. And like I said, like, come on man. Scar went to let Simba survive. Because if you if you kill the father, you have to To the sun, because the sun will come back and try to kill you have they not watched

Jeff:

They're not he was too militant like yeah, we're gonna practice all day every day or so Michael Jordan should

Jeff and Ant:

Donnatella was like their armor metadata like I build you weapons.

Jeff:

Yeah, he was like, like the dude from Batman. What's his name? Morgan Freeman. Character. Yeah, Lucius Fox. He was lucid.

Jeff and Ant:

He was Lucius and basically like raffia like had PTSD like he was like doing the war he had daddy issues bro.

Jeff:

Jeff and Ant:

She repeat right now. Pete knocking the bottom out of it. Man. You don't love you and tell

Jeff:

her jokes while he's doing it. Making her laugh.

Jeff and Ant:

And so big. She can't laugh them out. Like Nah, that's not gonna work. Maybe

Jeff:

he was making her cry. He was making her angry. Just more fun making her laugh bro.

Jeff and Ant:

bringing joy to her life man trying to give it show the good parts of life you out here. Stressing out talking about your kid. I'm like, she don't love you, man. You know? Jesse a juicy he not going to jail but found guilty. Yeah.

Jeff:

So what is it? What's the penalty for that?

Jeff and Ant:

I mean, he could get three it's not given three anymore like you get we get probation.

Jeff:

Supervised man. Listen, oh, his sister is now took over as the famous person in our family.

Jeff and Ant:

She bent she'd been the famous man. She'd been a famous one since he was bio.

Jeff:

I mean, she was the little girl in what what show was she on was family matters. She was the one that she wasn't something she

Jeff and Ant:

should have shot back. But shoot but she said she was a full house.

Jeff:

She was one of like Michelle's little friends from school to some shit right?

Anthony:

will need girlfriend? Yeah, she

Jeff:

was like the mandatory Negro friend that they had to put to make the you know to diversify the showmanship

Jeff and Ant:

at low color girl. But she's the more famous one she was just in the Harley Quinn movie.

Jeff:

She was in that she was in the suburbs. She was um oh my god.

Anthony:

I love the show. She

Jeff:

was in that show. Love country whatever.

Jeff and Ant:

Lovecraft country? Yes. Now her brother and that's the whole thing her brother was on some bullshit from the very beginning. And you know what got them jammed up in like but the prosecution did like really nail it down is it was that but it was a Subway sandwich.

Jeff:

What happened with that? Okay,

Jeff and Ant:

I'm going to give you a scenario, right? You're walking down the street and you're in New Jersey. And you say, I'm going to leave and I'm going to go to my house and I'm going to go get a Subway sandwich that says two blocks away. That's one of the coldest nights in Jersey history, which was in Chicago that day. You come out of there, and you get attacked, and they beat the hell out of you. They throw bleach on you, they wrap a noose around your neck. After all that happens, and they disappear. What do you do?

Jeff:

You go to Subway to get a sandwich? Yeah. And they have the receipt as proof of what time you got there.

Jeff and Ant:

Let's let's say this. Let's say he got a sandwich and then he got attacked afterwards. That sandwich would be would be in the street. That sandwich wouldn't be home with you. Right? It's hard to beat my ass. I'm not taking the sandwich home with me like, and like I said the thing like, if you had a new thing, like especially if you like your black, I'm thinking you want to get it off your neck as soon as possible. You don't leave that shit on and walk the fuck home. I'm getting any soft immediately like so. I feel bad for the man but I just think it's career shot. Like I don't think the Bible fuck with them anymore, which is the bad part but kind of put it upon itself. Don't lie to people just tell them the truth even though like it leaves us honest with them.

Jeff:

Where we're at, but yeah, let's take a quick break. When we come back. We're gonna have our special guests. I also want to give a shout out to my cousin Tommy he's out in Ohio man. Shout out to him. Love you, boy. We'll be right back

Advertisement:

What's everyone's saying about the culture podcast? Hey, I live all the time. And I love y'all man. Y'all always play the music man. Love man. Listen, my whole family loves it, man. It's the only podcast I listened to. We'll be right back

Jeff:

yeah, they represent a culture that represent the culture podcast. I we back we got our special guests. She hails out of Maryland. She's an underground rapper. She's dope as hell. newest album, her debut album is all available everywhere. I personally listened to it on title. Christina Shantae we have backwoods sweetie. Thank you for joining us today.

Backwood sweetie:

Thank you for having me. I appreciate it.

Jeff:

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Oh, I've

Backwood sweetie:

been rapping since I was 13. But I've always been a writer writing stories and poetry that I originally gotten to writing and recording by way of my father who's a DJ. He does my DJ studio, Matt, Mike, Mike. So that's how I got into it. Or you guys had the courage to get on the mic? Yeah.

Jeff:

Is it okay to x your age? How old are you?

Backwood sweetie:

I'm 32.

Jeff:

Okay, that gives a certain unwritten rules about asking women their age and their weight. But like I heard you, obviously we reviewed it on last week's episode. And we both liked it. Now that you told me that your dad was a DJ I wouldn't. I'm wondering if you get some of the influence from him. Was he like a 90s DJ was he like boom bap, you know, I mean that he grew up in that type of environment.

Backwood sweetie:

Definitely. Boom, bap 80s 90s He was the one who bought me all my Tupac albums, all my to pop novels, all the books on him. A lot of Source magazine battles. I forget what they call it undesired heights on high, though, so he, he put me on to all of those. And that's what kind of got me into performing and wanting to say the words that I've written down you know loud.

Jeff:

That's probably why we connect with your shit and why we like to show you I mean, because we grew up obviously in the East Coast northeast listening to that boom bap, you know, I mean, listening to the East Coast shit. And I hear a lot of that influence. And now that you mentioned Tupac, I hear it. I hear him in your music.

Backwood sweetie:

You know, I'm saying he's definitely my my favorite all time.

Jeff:

I mean, I guess beside what you mean, why? You heard the album.

Jeff and Ant:

Don't I talking to you? I'm talking.

Backwood sweetie:

Why is he my favorite all time? Well, I mean, some people say he's from New York, depending on who you're talking to. You might be from California. But he's my favorite. Because he was the first he was my first rapper, the most person who I fell in love with as an artist and as a poet. And to hear him contradict himself in rap. You can talk about women, you know, with a higher standard and be able to, you know, do the opposite and still have that same impact. Yes, he's always my favorite. Yeah, I

Jeff and Ant:

think he was like the humanity of him. That Exactly.

Backwood sweetie:

Being able to connect to his music, you know, real world problems, real life problems.

Jeff:

I think I think that's probably the biggest knock on pot. You know what I'm saying? That one, you know, he can do a Brenda's got a baby and The next song could be I get around, you know, I'm saying he's, you know, using women as objects and shit like that. Um, but like you said, I guess that made him you know, human right. But does the fact that he grew up in Maryland does that have anything to do with you know his influence on you at least slightly?

Backwood sweetie:

No, I don't think I had anything to do with it just the same. I can say the same for limb bias. I have a song called Lynnie on the album, and he's from my area from PG County around here, Langley Park. But it wasn't my idea to do a song about limb bias, you know, just because he's from Maryland, somebody else, you know, came to me with that track. So,

Jeff:

and you have a big ass following on I mean, you have a cold I don't want to get big, that's fine. But you have a cult following on Twitter. And that's why I wanted to get you on if you don't mind me reading a tweet, a tweet that I got from you probably notice individual revolt records. He goes by the name of revolt records on Twitter. And he said I'm one of the things I find intriguing with a music compared to her peers. She doesn't sexualize yourself like cardi or Megan or Nicki or, you know, she lets her bar speak and lets her talent on the mic shine through real raw Hip Hop shit throwback to MC Light and Lauryn Hill. But it's all asks and tips and sex visually and lyrically with a mainstream peers, even other underground female MCs leaning to the sex rap, because that's what sells today. So I wanted to get your opinion on that. And, you know, how does it feel to be, you know, African American woman in the game, not talking about sex, not in I mean, not showing your ads and your tests and all of that. And just in saying lyrics, I have content.

Backwood sweetie:

So just from listening to you as a podcast, where you review my album, you know, from what I could tell you had listened to my previous music, the singles that I had out, so if you listen to my older songs, or even a mixtape I did seven or eight years ago, you can hear how I've evolved, where I'm okay with talking about my sexuality. And I've done that, even in some more recent songs before the album. But it was important for me to not lead with that for my debut album. I just wanted to show my versatility and lead with that. But I had no issue at all talking about my sexuality or rapping about rapping about my body. Hmm.

Jeff:

So now we got to go back and listen to the old school shit. You know, I mean, some little came on.

Jeff and Ant:

It's kind of the misogyny in hip hop that feel that men can talk about their sexual prowess, but women can't act like women don't have sex, they can talk about it too. And people get disgusted by Oh, they're doing this doing that, like they've been doing it. They're not like they're not nuns who rap. We have sex too. They drink too. They do the same thing that you quote unquote, think men do like said. People make comments like that. always laugh because I find it funny because they're thinking like, well, she don't talk about sex and stuff. Like, yeah, it doesn't mean that she doesn't just didn't catch it in this version, but you might catch it, then. I appreciate I appreciate your lyricism. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of how you formulate and put your songs together. You're not one of the people like I know that you know, cat rhymes with hat that rhymes with act like none of it's that's a fluency in a fluidness to the way that you wrap that I do appreciate that I don't get a lot like Jeff has to think about all the new school guys he just doesn't like them because they just get up get up get up like there's nothing of substance with them. It's It's whatever the choice of the day is, and it's kind of roll with it. But yours has, like it's a heartfelt enough to I can tell you put you put your shit into it. Not a lot of people do. And I don't think it's an age thing. I just think of just you as a performer. Like you said, your parents like said I did not get a chance to listen to your earlier. Previous things. I apologize. But yeah, I did talk about sex. I did talk about my sexuality, so on and so forth. But like you said, you started off by saying about to pop that's probably influenced, like I there's a very broad spectrum of humanity, that I do that I go through that you want to show people experience and I think they get a really good taste of it on your new album.

Backwood sweetie:

Thank you. No, I do want to say that. You know, I don't have any issue with women discussing their sexuality or rapping about it, but I don't like when that's all that they have. There is no, there's no clever bar. There's no thought into it. It's just like you say, I'm gonna rhyme ass with cash. Go from

Jeff:

there, but that's what I was gonna say to like, I don't have a problem with that because I grew up listening to Little Kim, you know, I'm saying Foxy Brown. They're very sexual. You know, I'm saying yeah, I think Little Kim is probably the standard when it comes to you know, sexualized rap. But I also grew up with Lauryn Hill. You know what I mean? And I have her at the top of the pedestal when it comes to female rappers. You know, say Queen Latifah. Here we go, come on and stop stop with the shit.

Backwood sweetie:

Did you guys see my top 50 lists that I posted on so What are the top 50 Greatest Women Women in rap?

Jeff:

We're gonna get to your list because when we let me get my hand sanitizer right now there's a whole month of dedicating to females on what was it I told us and you know, we did our list of favorite you know, females I like I said, I have Lauryn Hill up there. He has Missy at number one, which is fine, but like he told you before my list wasn't an order to run away. When I think about MCS and I just mail

Jeff and Ant:

it, please now don't cut No, please. He wasn't enough.

Backwood sweetie:

I put myself in number one. So that's why I think highly of myself. That's bold

Jeff:

as cocky as shit, but hey, that's a hip hop being cocky. But now but I listened to what I talk about my number my top whether it's man or female, I'm listening to lyrics. Like I said, I'm not listening to beats. They always get on NAS about beats. I'm not listening to none. And that's dope too, that goes into that factors into you know, I mean, but I'm listening to lyrics first and foremost. Can you tell a story? Can you entertain? Can you challenge me mentally, you know, I'm saying, and when I was listening to shit, I was like, Yo, this shit is dope. Like I could I could fuck with it. I could listen to it multiple times and have to break down the lyrics and be like I did what you're talking about. This is not no no Cat in the Hat bullshit, that

Backwood sweetie:

sometimes I listen to my own songs and catch something that I said on accident. You know, I wasn't even intentional with the way I said it. Even the way in which I aligned my tracks. You know, the names of them when I go from Justice forward a Garvey and you know, his family is fighting for justice right now. So I got justice for Garvey, you know, in the way my tracklist goes, it's something I noticed after after the fact.

Jeff:

Now you have I heard the the 5% influence in your yo yo album. Can you tell me what your connection is to the Five Percenters?

Backwood sweetie:

I've just, I'm on a journey of on a search for knowledge. This the past couple of years, I feel like I've gotten more into politics, and that more into unlearning the things that were wrong, that I've learned growing up, and just reevaluating everything in my life. So the the influence is knowledge and wanting to learn more about my history about myself, my family, that knowledge of self embracing my blackness. Exactly, exactly.

Jeff:

You know, obviously, growing up I had, you know, we had no idea I didn't have no idea what 5% was, but now you know, I start listening to larger Mars and, you know, obviously, I'm older now I understand it more and I know about it a little bit more. You know, you hear the rock cams. And I go back and I'm like, damn, the Wu Tang lyrics make more sense now. You know, Wu Tang, him the brand new beings. You know what I'm saying? Even Erykah Badu you listen,

Backwood sweetie:

I was gonna say that next I was gonna say I have those epiphanies when I listened to Erica now.

Jeff:

So now I have to go back and I got you. You mentioned to pot books and stuff. I have the one book with the poetry What is it the rose that grew from concrete? So I have that one. And I have like two Wu Tang books. And you know, you listen, you read the books, and you have to go back and listen to their lyrics because now you understand them better. You know, you don't know what they're talking about. Back then. There was it was just words. It just sounded dope. You know, see Cypher punks. It's talking about ciphers and ciphers. And you know, you're just thinking about a circle. Everybody's rapping. But that's not what they're talking about when they talk about ciphers. You know what I mean? When it was important

Backwood sweetie:

for me to have rock came on, on the album, I have a track 11 Doing an interlude. You know, just kind of showing me love give me praise and praise in the album, and praise and the journey that I'm on I think it was important to have him on to show that I do have guidance that I'm not just, you know, spewing shit off the internet. And that I have somebody helping me along my journey.

Jeff:

Yeah, that's dope. I want to see you maybe jump on with blackdot Yo, if that's even possible at all that she will be if you don't know if you heard saw rocks last album, and she has blackdot on one of them sits and that's it.

Backwood sweetie:

I've heard her album I don't know if I heard that specific track. Definitely pull it

Jeff:

out because you reached out to Anthony we talked about in the last episode like you reminded me of her when I was listening to you. It's like underground, conscious and lyrical. All in one with a little bit of Lauren in it. A little bit of blackdot and a little bit all that shit in it. And what are you smiling

Backwood sweetie:

when I when I hear myself? I think of Lauryn Hill and Little Kim. I think kind of nice style. Let's have them both.

Jeff:

Yeah, I'm gonna have to have to listen to OSHA because I hidden a little camera, the latest. Best to

Backwood sweetie:

send you an old mixtape

Jeff:

Get off. Yeah. Now what are you talking about? acitivities and you

Jeff and Ant:

don't even hit a Saudi he won't be disgustedly.

Backwood sweetie:

Look. I'm a smoker so I made a lot of smoking songs so you kind of get that

Jeff and Ant:

shit. I was gonna ask was the backward like, could you in a country or backward as bad as the rolling paper you

Backwood sweetie:

look at my background I look like I'm in a backwards right now.

Jeff:

She named it after the Rolling Papers, but I know

Backwood sweetie:

my name was previously Dutchess I was Duchess when I started out. And then people started calling me Yeah, people started calling me dieci. So I evolved and had their comeback and rebrand myself and reintroduce myself and that's why I did a self titled debut, you know, to reintroduce myself.

Anthony:

Alicia light that she's okay.

Jeff:

What's your favorite song on this album? Yep. And why?

Backwood sweetie:

My favorite song? I think Starfire is my favorite song. It was one that was unexpected. It was a different genre for me. I had never heard of nerdcore before we went out of the funk, right? Yeah, that's track nine. And that's the only woman producer on the album. I actually was in the same space with her over the summer. We didn't know each other at the time. But we were both at Comic Con at Blair con in Virginia. And I'm a big fan of comics, comic books. I did a cosplay played over the summer. I was cosplaying as Starfire. You know, and I started, you know, just kind of playing around with ideas in my head. I went to a panel at Blair con, where they talked about the genre talk about nerd core and just kind of blew my mind and I started to look into nerdcore type beats. So I can all be stars and I found a beat called Starfire. And it's made by arcade, the sage, and she was at Blair calm with me. You know, that's what I found out after the fact. But, you know, ended up with this dope song like this. I definitely say that. That's my favorite one.

Jeff:

I mean, the beat is definitely not hip hop. made it worse. I thought about last week, I said Yo, some of the beats are unorthodox. Some of them

Jeff and Ant:

are borderline rock futz with it. But she made it. I got a bad title. I got you. I got you.

Backwood sweetie:

And I actually just got some some merchandise, a Bluetooth speaker hoodies and all that stuff with some Starfire and bordie. Were embroidered hoodies all of that stuff, all that good stuff.

Jeff:

Send me the link to that I'll post it on. I will.

Jeff and Ant:

How do you how important you think Brian is going to be for the next part of your career.

Backwood sweetie:

I think brandy and definitely visuals are really important. I think when I first started out and I first started recording and doing shows and all of that were I lacked were visuals. I have maybe one video on YouTube and that was seven or eight years ago, so I'm lacking there. A lot of people didn't know what I look like, you know, they've heard the music and just had no idea who I was. So that's definitely important. Letting people and letting them know who I am. You know, getting to know me and I also think that these interviews are you know, helping as well.

Jeff and Ant:

Didn't have to see you could have been like the her rap or like the new MF doing. Like with the magic sauce playing everywhere. Yeah. Like every every, every every show. She's in a different coffee house. I'm like, What are you last time?

Backwood sweetie:

That's not That's not a bad idea.

Jeff and Ant:

We got to get credit for that. If you ever go down to Lady Gaga, show up and go to one Childress like Chung Lee. Like like basically every Marvel she'd come like she could be both black widows. She could be Sheree every

Backwood sweetie:

summer now yeah,

Jeff:

I'm different. Yeah, you could beat a female doom. No, you could just show up and mask yo. Yeah. It'll be dope. Because that's gonna force people to have to listen to you. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, you're not gonna have to be about what you look like a ship.

Jeff and Ant:

It's important though. I mean, I hate the sexism right? But it's so important like, for women to succeed you have to look a particular way like, like even with Lauryn Hill. Like there's a crafted image behind it. It's it's it's supposed to be kind of Bohemian urban to a degree like all her shows in our outfits. Like you don't see Lauren wearing sweats, right like just just chillin. It's always like, same thing like I don't see Erykah Badu I hear just kickin it without a hit rap from time to time, but that's part of the image that she has to procure it for people to kind of get drawn in. And I'm saying if it's something that you're passionate about, especially like, you know, cosplay and stuff like that, there's a, as you know, there are memes of people out there that just interested in that, like, she's a cosplayer who happened to be really, really, really good at this ratchet. I just want 10% When you do it Just a little bit, not too big.

Jeff:

But yeah, the visual shit I learned about it obviously doing this whole podcast and you know, I've started opening up, you know, fucking tick tock pages and different because people want to see shit, you know what I'm saying? But

Backwood sweetie:

yeah, I know they want to see me in a studio and saying what I'm working on and things like that. And I think that's my next move, just letting people in more, you know, I mean, like I said, I do this for the culture for the people, you know, I gotta let the people in.

Jeff and Ant:

So we're when people request that, like, you know, like, if you if you procure an artist to make a piece of art, you don't want to do a pitch and every time we make a brushstroke, like like trust the process like at the end, this is gonna be

Jeff:

you could give them like little clips on Instagram, you know, little couple minutes. She's in the booth doing it I'm saying, and people start geeking out.

Jeff and Ant:

They like I don't like that lyric. Once you talk like, did this shit. Let me let me let me stay in my zone. Do what I got to do. Yeah, I mean, dude, you're here. You're gonna love once you enable

Jeff:

the comment.

Backwood sweetie:

Everything just like the possibilities are endless. So many ideas. Good ideas from you all and

Jeff and Ant:

oh, we got to come out of here

Jeff:

the Dallas Cowboys. Were Giants fans over here.

Backwood sweetie:

We all can't be on the same team.

Jeff:

Even from Texas, though.

Backwood sweetie:

It's gotta be should I be a raven?

Jeff:

Yes. You follow my rules?

Jeff and Ant:

Where did you find her on? Where did you find her Twitter?

Backwood sweetie:

MC who's a Cowboys?

Jeff and Ant:

Cowboys denature profile. Don't put it up there. Like, like no,

Jeff:

maybe she has a good reason to I can't even call cowboy fans bandwagons because they haven't even been good for a long time. You know I'm saying so she probably has a good reason for being a Cowboys fan. Maybe that's true. Her dad grew up liking I don't care.

Jeff and Ant:

I don't care cancel backwards. Backwards. Come on, go back to White House.

Jeff:

They don't burn correct bring.

Jeff and Ant:

Bring back Philly blunts brings back Philly blunts the backward.

Backwood sweetie:

Yo, I think everybody needs a little backwards a little bit.

Jeff:

Yo, besides obviously your dad's influence and Tupac what inspires you to rap?

Backwood sweetie:

Oh, I definitely feel like words. Words give power. I really love writing poetry and writing stories and being able to bring them to life. It's just exciting for me. I just have fun doing it. And I think that my sound is really nice. I'm really pleased with how I sound on the mic.

Jeff:

Acoustically. She likes to Alright, we're gonna get into these tops. First I'm gonna let you talk about your top females and we're just gonna do the top five you're gonna you might have to put some type of order to them. Yeah,

Anthony:

let's do backward backward and nylon.

Backwood sweetie:

For myself, I really love see Heather be huh lol Kim. Queen Latifah Radhika that's fine Foxy Brown with a five and I say fast. I excluded myself

Jeff:

so Heather be Foxy?

Backwood sweetie:

Lo Kim. Queen Latifah and Radhika that's your fun. Those are my top five from me growing up in the 90s You know the first women MCs that I was introduced to if I go a step further, I'd say Lauryn Hill. I might not have put her in the immediate top five because she sings to I'm not gonna take away from her being a MC. But that's what

Jeff:

you said. Lauren reminds you of you when you when you hear yourself you you remind yourself of Lauren

Backwood sweetie:

I can't sing. Perhaps though, a little bit. I sang a little bit on God particle. But I'm not a singer time because I think that her sound is similar to

Jeff:

mine. I'm tired of people telling me and arguing with me that Lauren is not a rapper, or that the message or that The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is not considered a rap album, because half of it is singing. Yo, she's a fucking rapper, and The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill to me is a top five album of all time. I don't give a fuck, man. I agree. But I have this argument all day. Like nah, she sings a lot. I can't put it up there.

Backwood sweetie:

I have about Drake, not about Lauryn Hill. Okay, same feelings. I liked him more as a singer.

Jeff:

Yeah, I don't Drake is not in my top 50 at all. Yeah, doesn't write his own lyrics. Aubrey is not up there. He's not in your Top 50 Top 50 Top 50

Jeff and Ant:

a tough Yeah. Absolutely, top 50

Jeff:

Drake has not been there's too many paths in no

Jeff and Ant:

top 25 No but top 50 Yeah, he got to be

Backwood sweetie:

Drake so my top 100 But I can think of 50 great rappers that have enjoyed

Jeff and Ant:

this interview right now well I care if one three times put them up there and couldn't have not shut off.

Jeff:

There's been so many rappers bro Drake is just not going to make. And I could probably give you 35 Or just from New York. You know, I mean what I'm even going to sound for California

Jeff and Ant:

zsC his issue is going to run into it's, you have to kind of whenever there's like deadlifts like this, you have to be very, very specific about the factors that you're using. Because the fact that you're going to completely shift your list. Like you're talking about literal like success in hip hop, probably in the top two.

Jeff:

That's a different list.

Jeff and Ant:

No, but I'm saying because he raps but he's a rapper successful. How did he did he raps? But he successfully cheated. So it's kind of how you do it. lyricism No, Drake's not gonna be up there. But as in like, the ability to move the culture for like, say it was kind of dead for a while, like it wouldn't survive without him. Kendrick and Cole, like those like the three pillars of this, of this eras point of hip hop, they needed those Drake

Jeff:

Drake wouldn't be shit without Lil Wayne, and you could probably put little Wayne in the top 50 Not Drake.

Jeff and Ant:

Yeah, but everybody every era of rap, there's always some lover man in there.

Backwood sweetie:

It's always Drake and calling out bars from other artists. I don't like that shit.

Jeff and Ant:

Like, the newer Drake No, but early Drake so far gone when he was just rapping was really good. But now he makes a mistake. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, nothing was ever like early, early Drake like we just out of Toronto. What's the joint when I'm when he just flown over to the Congo say you will be. And he just he just he's not stopped just going like, that's the tricky one. But once you make, you know, $100 million, you You ain't that personable? And I understand that. Could you tell him to a whole different audience. You're no longer a hip hop rap star, you know, a pop star. Once you get into that lane, because those bags are bigger. You got to make some compromises and I get it. That's why That's why he's made more money than Wayne even Wayne's by far a better rapper and he's been in the game longer just how it goes.

Jeff:

He's also I agree with that. But check it out. One of the criterias if you're going to talk about any list one of the criterias has to be no matter who's making a list has to be you write your own lyrics. If there's any question of whether you write it you got to be automatically eliminated in my those are my rules. I feel like Puff Daddy Drake Eazy E I've seen people play easy in the top five and he admits it he's the only rap I've ever heard that is actually admitted it on a song that he doesn't write his own shit. Ice Cube writes the shirt that I say like he said it on a fucking song. So to me you're automatically eliminated.

Jeff and Ant:

But again like I said, it's the weird thing so if you're saying that as going to be a context where you put the DLC did not because NW he wrote he wrote all of this shit and they won't deny it was an IC DLC and Q Right? It was DLC and cube they were doing all the right all address shit. DLC,

Jeff:

right? I don't know about DLC. Cube should be in everybody's top. Maybe 30 If not top 20

Backwood sweetie:

I think that's I think matter often changes but what stays the same or to POC Scarface? Nah, so

Jeff:

let's get into your top five men that roll up

Backwood sweetie:

to POC Starface NAS and then I gotta start thinking Naka say Jay Z JSY who else would I say? Jays I would say Devin the dude wow

Jeff and Ant:

I know you're freaked me out his pimp see that's my new job because you're Cali dude oh by kid Devin The dude is fire

Backwood sweetie:

So Devin in Wiz Khalifa you know, listening to them and you know coming up with my smoking songs that that was the influence there I listened to a lot of Devin growing up Devin and three six mafia. So the versus you know, here you got to talk about the versus was cool. Versus vs Muslim was interested in

Anthony:

Delta negotiate airborne.

Backwood sweetie:

I said, oh boy, like you asked about. A lot of people talked about the fight. But what caught my attention during the verses was the very beginning. Right after the tribute for Virgil and for adults, the moment of silence and right after that they bring out little pootie I think the whole song was violent. All of his gestures were violent. It really took away from the moment of silence for me right and that's where we now do the rest. I leave the rest would be a shitshow after that.

Jeff and Ant:

What's the term? Read the room? Yeah. Sorry about these gentlemen, the one that died of cancer when he died of gun violence. Have your science piece like, alright man back fuck it like, wait.

Jeff:

It reminds me of when Wu Tang did the moment of silence for odb and estivo jumps on the stage but naked like yo dude was sub.

Jeff and Ant:

He lucky he lives he's going that way but one died that day quad was about to put hands on. Because it's not the time like and that's the troublesome thing. And there was another thing that did come up on on the internet thing about a week ago. And it was number versus they asked what were your three favorite verses of this year? So what are yours?

Jeff:

I'm gonna do Oh, the Dipset and locks. Oh, yeah, probably number one. For me.

Jeff and Ant:

It could be any of them. Just just your bet your favorite three.

Jeff:

I like I like the moniker and the brandy. I miss. I miss the what you call it the KERS and Big Daddy Kane. Cash it was entertaining.

Backwood sweetie:

That I think that was my favorite. That's not the top for me. But I you know, I have to admit I miss I missed quite a few of them. And I hope that the last one was the last one. Because that's

Jeff and Ant:

going to be more definitely not going to be more. But I don't think they're going to have more structure. Yeah, what happened again?

Jeff:

Yeah, well, they're gonna have more sponsors and more seracs and more liquors, you know, the more sponsors they get, you know, I'm saying the more structure they're gonna have, you know, I mean, and eventually she's gonna probably be on TV. They're not gonna be just on you know, on thriller or on Instagram. She's probably gonna be on HBO Warner Do you know one of these years on Pay Per View? How

Backwood sweetie:

I hope I know right? Okay, however, after the last one, like

Jeff and Ant:

I don't I don't want it to be Instagram itself. Is it big enough entity. I don't want it to be on TV. I don't want it to be pay per view. Like it's because it'll be something that everybody enjoys, like long as the money is wildly different. But like, like number, I've never put them in order but the maximum Snoop because now DMX is going in. You're probably never gonna see him perform ever. I mean, whatever, but probably seeing them two together in a row. I mean, you're probably gonna see him perform again. But like, just having those two dudes in a room together. Like, you just you're not going to have that happen. The ice is an Earth Wind and Fire. I grew up in that music so I mean, more than them that's that's, that's hard for them. And then I was gonna say the locks and, and Dipset but that was kind of a shitshow to understanding like Jade is the one that pretty much saved it was just Lily my brain. They had

Jeff:

to read a map but I don't even consider that a versus bath. Not even a map. That was just it was during the bull having a good time. Right? What about the bobby brown

Backwood sweetie:

boxes? That one was good. It didn't make me cringe at all. It was definitely entertaining.

Jeff and Ant:

My third was go fix go facing right.

Jeff:

What about the Bobby Brown and what was the dude keeps what keeps sweat?

Jeff and Ant:

Stop that. Stop stop stop. Stop that.

Jeff:

We're gonna have to do this. They're gonna have to do this Missy and Buster shit. That's the one that makes sense.

Backwood sweetie:

Let's see him back. Yeah, I think I saw the idea floating around. Makes sense. I wouldn't know what woman to put up next to her though.

Jeff and Ant:

I've been saying that for months. There's no one that can stand in front of buses except for her. It sounds crazy. But just like it's like people always trying to match up mary j with somebody said there's really no woman that you can realistically get that can match up with. She's done. But you put Asscher against her network, but she misses the female version of Buster.

Jeff:

She's the animated female rapper. Like Buster is that animated rapper? You know, I mean, misses the female animated rapper. I get it. They're visual. We got so many videos and all of that. And their catalogs and shit.

Backwood sweetie:

But Mary and Mariah could go toe to toe

Jeff:

we talked about writing all over. You ain't

Jeff and Ant:

too fancy. I'm sorry. Mariah put her in a body bag.

Jeff:

Like how many how many married a body bag.

Jeff and Ant:

I love I love her but like I said it's different because cuz me her had to costume for two laps and Dipset is something about being up there and being able to perform and when more are starting to get the singing and like getting translate.

Backwood sweetie:

She got to do a Christmas night and she I

Jeff and Ant:

know because someone said they went to Americana shows up. It's like 30 minutes and she was out of the house for this. Oh, no

Jeff:

shit. No, at least Laura Hill will show up at one in the morning. But she'll perform for you know, at least an hour.

Jeff and Ant:

Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please tell her that story. Every time you bring it up.

Jeff:

I mean, a lot of people have the same story because she's known for this. He's known for doing this shit. I went to the meatpacking district in New York to see you know, Lauryn Hill doors opened up at like eight nine and they opened a barn that's what they want and I mean the venue doesn't care because you in essence eight nine just drinking drinking buying shit at the ball. Laurie hailing show up to like one in the morning. So imagine being there for like four hours. Just drink and drink drinking and listening to the DJ playing whatever by the time she came out everybody was just done and falling asleep. And she performed from like one to two piece. She showed up with kids and everything was like damn these kids have a bedtime she showed up with her little kids b I was like, Yo, it's one in the morning. We've been here waiting for you since 8pm Like fuck

Backwood sweetie:

yeah, I've never I've never been to the L buggy show but that doesn't you know that doesn't make me want to go seek seek one out but again

Jeff:

she's known for that that's why she said on her last song was the song with NAS on the last on the last night's project. She finally came out of hiding and she has a verse on it and she says you know I'm saving so much I worry about my lateness you know yeah cuz I mean shit

Jeff and Ant:

I pay for this you set him free Phil's later I pay you for your presence like

Jeff:

I gotta go to work tomorrow morning like it's it's 3am

Jeff and Ant:

do themselves you guys have gotta go turn no cuz they broke saved him for later. You want money to help them? Help us we paid you they can feed the needy whatever.

Jeff:

Yeah, before I forget going back to that versus I forgot to mention it before who the hell was that white kid there was this white boy just on the stage? Just right in the front just chillin the whole time. Like, is that busy bones son of some like does he have like a half white baby or some little white boy just standing there the whole time on a

Backwood sweetie:

lot of people on the stage a lot going on a lot going on in the background. That's how

Jeff:

the fight. But that's how the fight to be started with the camps. They gotta they gotta they got to do something with that, like, Yo, only two people perform and get to be on stage. Everybody else got to bounce.

Jeff and Ant:

When you start. The vs. Is this we're calling backward, backward

Backwood sweetie:

performance. You can call me sweetie.

Jeff and Ant:

Back with filing out? Everybody know what it is? Would you think one?

Backwood sweetie:

I think that 361 CQ method. Going into it. I didn't feel like going into it. I felt that three six will win. But I didn't think it would be a blowout. I think they messed up with the songs that they did. They did a lot of smoking songs. A lot of and that's that wasn't the bad, you know, at all. Everybody was you know, drinking and three, six, we're doing all these turnt up songs. And they were you know, doing lullaby lullabies, if you will.

Jeff and Ant:

And he's opening a single show to OTAs

Backwood sweetie:

but they didn't wish they I wish they would have done some harder so they didn't

Jeff:

even do the first word of mouth yo. Yeah,

Backwood sweetie:

I know it was the second but I was looking forward to hearing that so

Jeff:

how do you not do that? And then they left Crossroads to the very end after the show was over like how do you not put those lunch songs in the middle of the shit?

Backwood sweetie:

They had the better opening song they had the better starter starter song than 36

Jeff:

Which one was it? The easy shit was the first opening song

Backwood sweetie:

thanks for I forget the name of it. But with the gunshots going off but it was it was like that was there a more powerful song The rest were kind of slow

Jeff and Ant:

like sit and play well come over here you're thinking man seriously. Like like you barely understand them. When they wrapped into it. They start singing along like it wasn't great thing to begin with. But like I said, we get a chance to like, because everybody wants him to have his own verses right? We get to pull out Wayne for a verse in waned and just disappeared like this this that's saying something about you that you can do that. Like Oh, come on. Come on Wayne, all five for for you Come on dance to your mama house code on syncing your verse who couldn't get the fuck off stage. That was great. That was great. And he had tripperz and he had Terrence Howard like it Terrence Howard.

Jeff:

They won right there. When they pulled him out. I was like, Buffett back to shut up. And turns

Backwood sweetie:

out again, webby and there were some a lot of fun features that came out.

Jeff and Ant:

Yeah, yeah, it was like it was like it was kind of pointed to versus like the Greatest Hits portion of it. But I just I just didn't think that, you know, Bone Thugs had enough like, look at me and Jeff was talking about before could we were just talking about Mariah. It's not like they was gonna be able to bring up a brick now.

Jeff:

rappers have a featured with Mariah and they played the shit and she nowhere to be found. The locks played a song that they had with her. And I'm like, Okay, this would be the time when she's gonna come up. That was a big hit. No, she's not showing up to the ship. at all I'm

Jeff and Ant:

thinking to Okay, so it's the locks. Bone Thugs. Nice. We're talking about rappers who have actual features with right Oh, dirty bastard.

Jeff:

But yeah, obviously he has not yet right. But he and all them songs was hits. Right but it's not a lot

Jeff and Ant:

and busted. Right. Right. They she don't do a lot of them. So but when whenever she is with a rapper, she I haven't seen her do one with a rapper. That's not a hit.

Jeff:

But the thing is, she was like the first diva to start making songs with rappers she was like that first. single unit I mean when she made that Sowell DB that she was unheard of that's why it was so big and you know Mary but it but Mary's the queen

Anthony:

I just look like a superstar

Backwood sweetie:

bonehead TASHA Come out for thuggish rubbish bow Yeah, she is like her her mic wasn't on she was it wasn't it wasn't right. It wasn't like how gangsta Boo was spit actually spit in her shit. You know, Tasha came out and it just seemed like she was just singing with the you know,

Jeff and Ant:

I would just went in with heart with doing over the past years like Isaac Newton, like who is this? Like, oh, girl

Jeff:

actually sings that part. Yeah, and we still don't know who uncle Charles is. Quick. We haven't figured it out yet.

Jeff and Ant:

Okay, all right. Okay. Okay. All right. In a crossroads right? When he says Doug, he's talking about a person not an animal, right? I know. It sounds stupid. But people have really really really close to their dog. Look at DMX I'm just asking. I just want to know I don't want to kill my dog man. I miss my uncle Charles. I'm like cuz cuz he says dog you mentioned the person afterwards. But not saying that Charles was dope but let's see it gets weird like that in

Backwood sweetie:

the video. You know there's a funeral and you know there's a body a human and the cast

Jeff and Ant:

dog till this day if I see a black boy had to do what kind of treat a trench coat I'm crossing the street like I seen you before. No, no when going across the road today. I'm crossing the street. I'm good. I

Jeff:

might be uncle Charles bro.

Jeff and Ant:

I'm like Charlie my huh? Just check and be Thank you. Yo, and

Jeff:

let's not forget the Fat Joe one two, the Fat Joe and Joe rude. I was entertaining one. It wasn't a task. It was an attainment. But I'm gonna get off this versus Okay.

Jeff and Ant:

Last week off the versus if there was one. I mean, off beat one that you will want to see. Just to have your favorites. Who would it be?

Jeff:

Never gonna happen. Jay knows.

Backwood sweetie:

I was gonna say the same thing. I wasn't gonna I wasn't gonna say that. It wouldn't happen but I was gonna say I would want to see Jay Z and NAS and if and if we're talking women MCs I'd like to see some underground. Some I'd like well in general I'd like to see some underground versus start happening.

Jeff:

He's gonna branch out. I think he's gonna branch out we're gonna start seeing like Christina Aguilera versus Britney Spears soon enough she's gonna branch out to pump

Jeff and Ant:

I want to see the route versus tribe huh Goshawk I don't think outcasts is ever going to do it. But I want you to route versus tribe. As much as I want. I want to see the route versus the whole jungle collective. I want the jungle brother thing doing and bringing them out there.

Backwood sweetie:

I'd like an ARRI Linux versus Jazmine Sullivan.

Jeff and Ant:

Jasmine I'm gonna put her in the ground boy I'm sorry I love your Jasmine had the best r&b album hotels his hotel some different

Backwood sweetie:

oh I agree with it there's maybe two or three tracks on there that actually go back to and listen a lot there's running back but not the whole album.

Jeff and Ant:

Average is already a spirit animal.

Backwood sweetie:

She from my area write

Jeff:

the one rapper Do you think you would want to work with

Backwood sweetie:

male or female?

Jeff and Ant:

I like to to work with Dr. Dre oh you talking guess my bad

Backwood sweetie:

NAS CAMI J Cole Kendrick Lamar C liver guys lyrical dudes Liverpool's are women Shane alar I want to work with underground artists more so than you know big industry names you know continue to help support other underdogs and help pull ourselves up you know rather than clinging on to something that's already there.

Jeff:

I don't need the industry cat is gonna come in and start giving you rules and shit like I'm gonna need you to change this line. I'm gonna need you to say like this. Not like this.

Backwood sweetie:

What I'm gonna do what I want to do creatively of course right?

Jeff:

But yo, I'm not gonna take too much time. This is the weekend this is a what is a Saturday is so dark as only three and a half afternoon and it's so fucking dark out. But I want to thank you for coming on let people know where let people know where they can find you. Yo

Backwood sweetie:

I'm on Twitter at backwards sweetie the E at the end of sweetie is with the three on Instagram backwards sweetie. Just spelled as is V AC KWODSWE T IE on Instagram and I'll send you all my link. You can attach it to this and not on Facebook. I'm not on I was on Facebook but I've completely deactivated I'm done with my least favorite app. My least favorite

Jeff:

I'm finally done with Facebook or some shit

Backwood sweetie:

I don't have I might make a an artist or band page on there but as far as like, you know, where I was only communicating with family and friends, but I don't get a lot of interaction on Facebook. So I just kind of dated that whole thing and decided to stick to you know where where I'm getting, you know the love and interaction from

Jeff:

I was told that Facebook is for old people. That's what somebody told me. A young kid told me that Facebook was for overheads. I'm like God damn, young kids are on Tik Tok and Instagram now

Jeff and Ant:

yes said Phil's on fire doing create challenges good. Be Oh, my fuck as

Backwood sweetie:

far as as far as Twitter, I've been able to collaborate with other artists and other DJs through Twitter and I'm not getting that type of feel from other other social media sites.

Jeff and Ant:

I'm glad to get to put on Facebook I'm glad you got above that narcotic for it yo, cuz you gotta remember remember Facebook was just started was just commendable for to get on Facebook. You had to be in college. Like you had to have.edu to get on Facebook. Once he opened up to the masses, and it was for college.

Backwood sweetie:

I remember when I had my first one but I wasn't in college. I know it was a high school when I started when I had my first Facebook but I'm glad I'm glad

Jeff and Ant:

she had to get off Facebook I'm not sure enough no booty and tit for them that's she she does this I get likes on Facebook. You got flash lube?

Backwood sweetie:

She goes Music Music likes to get no love

Jeff and Ant:

keeping up a little bit all hearts in the app.

Jeff:

You're gonna send us her own little Kim song. Thank you so

Backwood sweetie:
